Will

This is Will by Kim Hargreaves. I've shown you a progress of it here. A classy piece with simple vertical lines created by knitting columns of cables.

I do love my greys  and this grey is actual a combination of two yarns held together . A rowan fine lace in black and a rowan kid silk haze in grey (639). The cardigan is very warm indeed and ever so soft against the skin.

A word of warning about the sleeves length. Because I'm rather short , my arms are short respectively so I tend to always deduct from the sleeves lengh stated in patterns. In this example I chose a lengh of 40 cm instead of the 46 cm that was indicated in the pattern . I sew the sleeves caps into the arm holes and looked in the mirror - an Oran-utang stared back. So a pair of scissors had to be pulled out and snip couple of stitches at the beginning of a row where I saw was fit. The yarn pulled out , live row revealed ,stitches picked and a knitting down commenced for few rows until a bind off. A good tip for you - I like to knit two together when binding off in a cable area - gives a neater straighter edge ! just be careful when doing this in polo neck as there is less give .

Plisse Jacket

Two things attracted me to this piece when first seeing it in this book- its texture and swingy floaty way it hangs on the body. I still find the texture appealing - two different yarns are being used with the same size  knitting needle, the yarns are a good match in colour both darkish forest green that I like. The thicker *(sport weight I'd say ) one is lamb's wool of Patricia Roberts in olive tweedy green-really nice bouncy wool and the other yarn is Rowan kidsilk haze in Drab (discontinued colour). The Patricia Roberts yarn was gifted to me by my dear knitting fanatic friend :), not enough to make a big garment but perfect quantity for this design. The stripes are interesting to look at and I'm on purpose did not used blocking as I wished to maintain the texture.

Now that all is done I'm not sure at all about the swinginess  and this flapping about of the collar and hems. The weather is still cold so I need to be snug , my shoulders are narrow and the armholes tend to move and slide down my upper arms . So yes I'm afraid Plisse is going for a long nap in the green woolly department. Mental note to myself -there are other colours beside green ..

Destashed a ball and a bit of kidsilk haze. Interesting construction of using short rows. The turning point of the short row-hole being created- is part of the design. Also worth pointing the designer's clever method of creating even nupps.

The yarn perhaps is too fuzzy to show off the design but the results is  light and airy useful little shawl. Berta fully agrees.. :)
